Dive into these 5 Netflix shows with strong female characters

If you’re looking for a new show to watch on Netflix, look no further! These 5 shows available on Netflix have dynamic and smart female characters…and pretty amazing plots too.

1. Drop Dead Diva

Follow Jane Bingham as she navigates the world of law… and love. There’s just one twist. She’s a supermodel who died and woke up in someone else’s body. Sounds ridiculous right? It is, but it works. This show is light-hearted and a great pick me up!

2. Emily Owens, M.D.

If you love Meryl Streep, you’re going to love her daughter Mamie Gummer, who plays an insecure doctor who has to work with a long-time crush of hers, and her high school bully. This medical drama and comedy will tug on your emotions! Emily Owen is an extremely relatable character.

3. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Ok this comedy is definitely in a league of its own. It’s very goofy, so be forewarned. But it’s also hilarious. Not ever show has a clear takeaway, but if you look closely you’ll realize that Kimmy (a woman who was held hostage underground for years) is surprisingly like many young woman.

4. Parks and Rec

This laugh out loud series follows a parks and recreation department in a local town, with department head Leslie Knope as the main character. Knope (played by Amy Poehler) is funny, determined, feminist and pretty ridiculous. Basically, she’s amazing.

5. Scandal

Lawyer-turned-rogue “handler” Olivia Pope makes scandals disappear for her clients. But she’s also a scandal herself… (Can’t reveal any more without spoiling it). In so many ways Olivia Pope has everything under control, and in so many ways she doesn’t–which makes her an incredibly interesting character. This series is sometimes violent, often hot and heavy and definitely addicting.

Happy watching!
